This transit-oriented project consists of an 820,000 sf research and development project in Cambridge, MA located on the site of the former A.D. Little/Acorn Park adjacent to Route 2. Aspects of this project included the redesign of area intersections including an off-ramp from Route 2, two surface streets, and several driveways for the MBTA Alewife Garage. Impacts to the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway were also carefully considered during the design process. Detailed intersection, pedestrian, transit, bicycle, and parking analyses were completed during the City’s Special Permit process. Subsequent to project approvals, the implementation of an aggressive Parking and Transportation Demand Management monitoring program was undertaken to comply with local and state trip reduction mandates.
In addition to the Special Permit process, the project required the preparation of Draft and Final Environmental Impact Reports and permits for work on MBTA facilities. During the permitting process, there was extensive public review including neighborhood meetings, public review comments on the environment reports and numerous public hearings.
VAI continues to provide transportation services to the Client as the site becomes tenanted. Recently, Forrester Research Inc. relocated their Corporate Headquarters to Cambridge Discovery Park.
