Route 140, North Street and Chestnut Street
This project entailed the design of geometric improvements to approximately 1,800 feet of state and local roads in Foxborough. The transportation improvements were part of the off-site mitigation associated with the redevelopment of Foxborough State Hospital. Elements of the project included preparation of a traffic impact assessment, Final Environmental Impact Report, and Functional Design Report. Based on existing and future demand, traffic signals and a modern roundabout were designed to address future traffic operations and provide safe access to the Town Safety Complex and adjacent residential and commercial developments.
Key elements of the design included geometric improvements, one-way operation on the local streets, new traffic signals on Route 140 and drainage system modifications. An alteration to state layout was prepared to accommodate the widened Route 140 with pedestrian accommodations. Based on the environmental reports and highway design, the Town of Foxborough was awarded a $2,000,000 PWED grant for these transportation improvements. VAI prepared the preliminary through final design documents (PS&E); layout alteration plans, MassDOT Signal and State Highway Access Permit applications; bid phase services and construction services for the Town of Foxborough. This project was completed on budget and on time for the occupancy of the Town Safety Complex, and abutting commercial and residential developments.
