This project in support of the proposed Big Y development involved intersection, traffic signal and safety improvements along Route 140 in downtown Franklin, Massachusetts. VAI provided engineering and design services for improvements to Route 140 including reconstruction and widening of approximately 1,500 feet of Route 140 to accommodate exclusive left-turn lanes for both the eastbound and westbound approaches and installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection with the proposed Site Drive and Town Hall access drive.
VAI prepared the preliminary through final design documents (PS&E) in accordance with MassDOT and Federal design guidelines and standards, including the preparation of the State Highway Access Permit application and the Traffic Signal Regulation for MassDOT review and approval. The work involved the preparation of construction drawings for roadway geometry, drainage system modifications, utility relocations, new traffic signal installation; sidewalk and wheelchair ramp reconstruction in conformance with ADA/AAB standards; and alteration to the State Highway Layout. During construction, VAI provided services including preparation and attendance at construction meetings, response to contractor questions and requests for information, review of shop drawings, periodic on-site observation and utility coordination.
